Hello! Thanks for visiting the new homepage of Write Strong Consulting. I first launched this business in 2007, with a focus on personal statement consulting for college and graduate school applicants. Over the last dozen years, the business has grown by leaps and bounds, thanks to my loyal clients.

While personal statements remain an area of focus, my clients look to me for help with much more than their admissions essays. They also request help with applying for everything from fellowships and internships to academic probation appeals. And then, after they graduate, they often ask if I can help them write essays and letters to land good jobs, medical residencies, and much more. Some start their own businesses and come to me for help on personal and business bios and other copy for their websites.  And some of them even hit me up for zippy online dating profiles and other forms of personal correspondence!

So, I’ve realized that Write Strong Consulting has become a full-service writing consultancy that empowers my clients to reach a range of academic, personal, and professional goals through writing. In that way, it reminds me of a tradition in Latin America called “escritorios publicos,” or “public writers.” These writers set up their typewriters on tables in plazas and write anything from official business letters to love poems for their (often illiterate) clients for a fee. Most famously, the character Florentino Ariza from Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera was one of these public scribes. I snapped this photo of some escritorios publicos at work when I visited Cartagena, Colombia, several years ago.

I love this tradition because it allows the writer to be a conduit for the client, to give voice to the client’s ideas, thoughts, and feelings through the power of language. If I lived in Cartagena, you might find me tapping away in a public square. But since I live in Pasadena, California, I pretty much do the same thing from my home office. Feel free to pull up a virtual chair and let me know how I can help you!
